About Us

The Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church, founded in 1902, has touched the lives of countless people locally, nationally and globally. Dr. James L. Netters has served as senior pastor of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church since 1956 and Rev. Melvin D. Watkins is the Co-Pastor. Together they lead our congregation. Dr. Netters clearly sets the standard of pastoral excellence and the legacy of superb pastoral leadership continues.
Our church is located in the heart of the Westwood Community at 620 Parkrose Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee with approximately 4000 members. In addition to holding regularly scheduled Sunday worship services, we offer Sunday School, Bible Studies, Children’s Church and Youth Connection. In addition to the Mount Vernon Christian Academy and the Westwood Manor Elderly Cottages, we also maintain numerous ministries directed by equipped ministry leaders.

Mount Vernon Christian Academy is a 3 Star, faith-based child care academy of excellence located on the church campus. We have a rich tradition since 1973 of providing exceptional care and education for infants, toddlers and preschool aged children. We pride ourselves on being caring and professional while maintaining a safe and nurturing environment.

Westwood Manor Elderly Cottages, owned by Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, is a quiet and peaceful community located across from Westwood High School. It is reserved for independent-living seniors at least 55 years and older. Here at Mount Vernon, we aim to embrace and heal the community through the love of God and to see our lives transformed as we learn to apply God’s Word.
